Travel Can Be Stressful, Your Health Doesn’t Have to Be

We offer vaccines for healthy living, like meningitis for college students, rabies for veterinarians, or hepatitis A for restaurant workers, even if you’re not traveling.

Destination Health Travel Clinic is a Massachusetts-owned and independently operated travel vaccine and travel medicine clinic, specializing in the immunizations and health guidance needed for international travel. With convenient locations in Western and Central Massachusetts and the Boston area, we are a go-to resource for travelers preparing for trips abroad. We also regularly see residents from nearby states like Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont who are searching for a travel clinic near them. Many doctor offices, pharmacies, and boards of health don’t have access to specialty travel vaccines and refer patients to our clinics.

Good health is priceless, and many diseases can be prevented with vaccination, planning, and medication.  We won’t have you waiting in a crowded lobby well past your appointment time only to find out the vaccines you need aren’t available.  Because we specialize in traveler’s health, we keep hard-to-find vaccines available all all our offices including; yellow fever, typhoid fever, human rabies vaccine, polio, Japanese encephalitis, and cholera among others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Appointments

Do I need a referral from my physician for an appointment?

A referral is not required to be seen for an appointment at Destination Health Travel Clinic.

Do I need to complete paperwork before I arrive to the appointment?

Yes, once your appointment is confirmed, a secure online questionnaire will be sent to your email. Once submitted, you do not need to download or print your answers.

Do you allow walk-ins without an appointment?

No. Patient consultations typically last 30 – 60 minutes and must be scheduled in advance by booking online or calling our office.

If I’m traveling with my family or part of a group to the same country, can we book an appointment together?

Yes! We can accommodate up to 4 people in a group appointment. Keep in mind that specific health questions may be asked as part of the visit. If you are not comfortable sharing details about your health history in a group setting it is best to schedule an individual appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please arrive with any personal vaccine records, including childhood cards in order for the nurse to provide you the best recommendations for your trip. Photos of vaccine records are helpful too!

Do I get the vaccines during the first appointment?

Yes, any immunizations you choose to receive will be given during the first appointment and your vaccination record will be updated or a new record printed for you.

Which vaccines need more than 1 dose?

Some vaccines do require multiple shots (boosters) within the first few weeks/month.  At the end of your first appointment, a follow-up visit will be scheduled.

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Japanese Encephalitis
  • Rabies

Other vaccines may need to be repeated after a few years like Typhoid Fever.  

Vaccinations

Do you have the Yellow Fever vaccine in stock?

Yes! Destination Health Travel Clinic is Yellow Fever vaccination site authorized by the CDC and are registered with Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The clinic has an official Yellow Fever stamp that is placed inside the “yellow card.”

How do I show proof I received the Yellow Fever vaccine?

During your appointment, the Yellow Fever vaccine will be documented in an immunization booklet commonly known as the “yellow card.”  It’s official name is the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP).  

The nurse will also use an official stamp and fill the “yellow card” out completely using your name from a government issued ID.  

How do I know which vaccines I should receive?

As part of your appointment, staff will discuss recommended or required vaccines based on the country you are traveling to.  Your immunization and health history are considered before providing specific recommendations and to ensure you can safely receive the vaccines.

Staff at Destination Health Travel Clinic are specially trained to follow CDC and World Health Organization guidelines and have access to up-to-date country and region specific information to ensure you get the vaccines needed. 

Will the vaccines I receive be sent to my physician?

Yes, if you give consent, a record of any vaccines you receive will be securely sent to your medical provider’s office. 

Additionally, all vaccines will be reported electronically to the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS).  MIIS is a state-wide system for reporting immunizations to ensure an electronic version of your vaccine history is always available regardless of where you receive your shots. 

Prescriptions

Will I receive a malaria prescription as part of the appointment?

Yes, if you are traveling to a country or region where malaria is a risk, a prescription for malaria is included in the office visit fee. 

An electronic prescription will be sent to a pharmacy of your choice after your appointment.  

Can you provide prescriptions for my regular medications?

Destination Health is not a primary care provider and cannot provide prescriptions outside of our scope of pracitce. 

In some cases, a prescription for traveler’s diarrhea and/or high altitude sickness can be sent to your pharmacy via electronic ordering. 

Payments and Cancellations

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel less than 48 hours before your appointment, you will be charged a $50 fee.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all credit cards including American Express and Discover and debit cards. 

Cash is also accepted but not preferred.

Do you accept health insurance?

Destination Health Travel Clinic is not in network with health insurance plans.  Any vaccinations received, including the fee for the office visit will be charged at the end of the appointment.  

Many health insurance plans do not cover travel vaccinations and required their members to pay out-of-pocket. 

Will you provide me with an itemized receipt that I can turn into my health plan?

Yes, at the end of your appointment, you will receive an itemized invoice, also known as a Superbill, showing insurance codes and charges you paid. If you choose, you can send this to your health plan and sometimes it will apply to your deductible or you may receive a refund from your insurance plan.
